INDONESIA HOST MARITIME SECURITY DRILL

Indonesia hosted a 4-day joint drill on measures to address sea pirates, human trafficking and illegal fishing issues in Asia and Australia joined by ten countries, local media reported on Tuesday.
Besides Indonesia, the drill was joined by Singapore, Australia, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, The Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Timor Leste and Vietnam.

Ten countries are taking part in the drill organized by Indonesia's coordinating maritime security agency (Bakorkamla) and Australia's Border Protection Command (BPC) that was opened by Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Politics, Security issues Djoko Suyanto.

"The drill is expected to improve the existing cooperation, develop 'regional contact point' between participating countries in addressing maritime issues," Bakorkamla Chairman Didik Heru Purnomo was quoted by the Antara news service as saying.

During the drill, delegations would expose maritime issues in their respective countries, share their experiences in dealing with sea piracy, human trafficking and illegal fishing problems.
