EAST TIMOR TO SEND 14 SOLDIERS TO JOIN UNIFIL

BEIRUT: East Timor’s Foreign Minister Zacarias da Costa said Monday that his country will join the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) next November.

Da Costa affirmed his country’s readiness to help Lebanon during a meeting with caretaker Foreign Minister Ali Shami to discuss ways to enhance cooperation between the two states in the economic, cultural, and educational fields.

“I informed President Michel Sleiman and Minister Shami that East Timor will participate in UNIFIL by providing 14 soldiers to the Portuguese contingent next November,” said Da Costa who added that “this modest contribution is proof of our willingness to help Lebanon at any time if we are needed.”
